Founded in Indiana, the company remains on a decades-long growth path, while continually supporting local non-profits and innovating environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes

Shelbyville, IN (November 10, 2023) -- Knauf Insulation, Inc., a leading, family-owned global manufacturer of fiberglass insulation, celebrates 45 years in Shelbyville, Indiana since the company's founding in 1978. The company started with 450 employees and has since grown to over 1,600 people in six facilities across the United States. Boasting the world's largest fiberglass insulation plant, Knauf's Shelbyville operations encompass 1.53 million square feet of manufacturing space.

"When we first acquired the plant in Shelbyville in 1978 we had a vision to become a leading manufacturer of glass mineral wool insulation in North America," says Thies Knauf, former CEO of Knauf Insulation and co-shareholder Knauf Group. "Seeing how Knauf Insulation North America has grown over the past 45 years is something we can all be extremely proud of. Shelbyville holds a special place in my heart as I spent much of my career here and I am so grateful for our employees and this great community that helped make it all happen. I'm looking forward to our continued growth and success."

Community Commitment

Through its long tenure in the area, Knauf and its employees have invested time and resources to help the community, families in need, and local non-profit organizations. Organizations such as the Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, Gleaners Food Bank, Shelby Supply Company and Jobs For Life, and Shelbyville School District have all benefited from Knauf employees' financial and physical contributions. The company recently donated to the Early Learning Center in Shelbyville's Intelliplex Park, a state-of-the-art facility making a significant effort to improve childcare access in Shelby County. Additionally, Knauf has taken a substantial role in the annual Shelby County United Fund (SCUFFY) drive for the past 40 years. In 2023 Knauf was the drive's largest donor with a contribution of over $110,000. Employees are very active in improving the community, volunteering over 500 hours in 2022.

Environmental Efforts

Knauf Insulation has prioritized sustainability in all of its 45 years. Knauf's mission is to challenge conventional thinking and create innovative solutions that shape the future of the environment. Knauf is heavily invested in improving glass recycling rates, with the company using 500 million pounds of recycled glass (26 million glass bottles) in its manufacturing process annually. The company operates a local program with the Shelby County Recycling District and the Hancock Recycling District in which all collected glass is used in Knauf's manufacturing process.

"Our commitment to innovation and sustainability has been a driving force behind our continued success and we are excited for what the future holds," says Matt Parrish, CEO of Knauf North America. "As we look ahead, we will continue to prioritize our employees, customers, and the communities we serve, with a focus on creating innovative solutions that shape the way we live and build."

Employee Growth

The company continues to hire for its two manufacturing facilities and corporate offices in Shelbyville. Steeped in solid values and a diverse culture, employees enjoy company-paid continuous education and professional development. Employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community and are offered paid volunteer time for these efforts. Committed to its family culture, Knauf employees enjoy offsite events together such as movie nights, fishing, cookouts, and sporting events.
