Roof decking expected to finish in July

MCGREGOR, Texas, June 22, 2023 -- The Knauf Group, a family-owned building materials company, announced today that motorists passing by Knauf’s new Central Texas facility in the McGregor Industrial Park on S. Lone Star Parkway (SH 317) now see the 600,000 sq. ft. building nearly in its final form. Roof decking continues, and the general contractor expects the building will be dried-in by the end of July.

"The Knauf global family, along with the McGregor community, celebrates this exciting milestone," said Knauf Senior Vice President Kevin McHugh. "We were so graciously welcomed into McGregor three years ago with just a vision in our hearts, and for all of us to be able to see this awesome facility rise from that ranch land, knowing what a great benefit this will be to all of Central Texas, is overwhelming and thrilling."

The 300 wall panels that form the facility are made from 26,189 cubic yards of concrete. In order for the walls to withstand Texas weather patterns, 611 tons of rebar were woven together to strengthen their form, and concrete from 1,270 trucks created the final panels that make up the structure seen by passers-by today. Along with other trades, Crossland Construction says that over 45,000 safe person-hours have been logged to date.

"We have been so proud to partner with Knauf Insulation and the many great folks in McGregor on this incomparable facility," said Crossland Construction Vice President – Fort Worth Division Manager Derek Kloer. "By simply driving by on the highway, people in this region can see the massive scope of this construction process. The progress made each day means that this project is one step closer to production, which is great for Knauf and also will be a great impact to the McGregor community and all of Central Texas."

In the coming months, Central Texas residents will have opportunities to learn more about employment at the Knauf Insulation production facility. The company plans to participate in various job fairs and technical and university career days as well as partnering with military job transition programs and events. Knauf expects to hire over 150 individuals in roles such as engineers, technicians, and operators, as they continue their community presence through their partnership with the McGregor Chamber and Economic Development Council.
