Goals & Commitments to Global Environmental Sustainability

At Knauf Insulation we have always been defined by sustainability. Our products save energy, cut emissions and are designed to make sure buildings are good for the environment and keep people healthy, safe and well.

But sustainability is a process of continuous improvement. We need to build on our successes. We must do more for our people and our environment.

We have set ourselves four important long-term goals for the future:

Put People First — We know a better world can start at work. That’s why we will ensure our communities and people thrive, safely.
Achieve Zero Carbon — Our big ambition is to go small. We will minimize the impact of our products, plants and offices.
Deliver a Circular Economy — We must do more with less. We will use more recycled materials than ever in our products and find more ways to use resources that have minimal environmental impact.
Create Better Buildings — Buildings play a vital role in creating a better world. We will continue to innovate and create new eco-friendly solutions to make buildings fit for the future.

ECOSE® TECHNOLOGY

Our patented, bio-based binder is the smarter alternative to the traditional phenol formaldehyde binders used in fiberglass insulation. It's the foundation to our commitment to making the world a better place.

In North America alone, the switch from phenol formaldehyde based resins to ECOSE® technology conserves the equivalent of 100,000 barrels of oil annually.

MANUFACTURING

10 railcars — that's about how much recycled glass cullet we put to good use each day. From start to finish, our plants are dedicated to finding efficiencies throughout the manufacturing process.

Over the last decade, they've reduced overall energy use by 20%. Each year, they make continued improvement efforts to save even more. The result — a product that saves energy before it's even made and after it's installed.

It starts with recycled content, reduces energy consumption during manufacturing and ends with a sustainable product that takes just 40 days to recover the energy used to make, ship and install it. Then keeps on saving for the life of the insulation.

When what you make can end up just about anywhere, you have to make sure it’s worthy of just about anywhere. Our certifications are our badges of honor.
